Dinner In Asheville

Hey all!  I just got home from my weekend getaway with Greg!  We went to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee to enjoy a little mountain time, and it was so fabulous!

Friday I took a half day and got home around noon to get packed up.  I also made us these Flat Out wraps filled with a veg chik'n patty, grilled peppers, spinach, and cheese, with a side of Emily's curried potatoes.

I figured it was just as easy to whip up something before we left as to grab fast food on the road.

Being the procrastinator I am, I hadn't packed ahead of time, but after a few blips (involving a dead battery in my car- don't ask...Bad timing!!).  I was able to throw everything together and we hit the road.

My travel partners were pretty cute :)

We decided to head to Asheville for dinner on the way.  It took us a little while, but we found FREE parking, which was great, because Asheville was HOPPING!  We went to Bistro 1896 for dinner, because they have outdoor seating and let us bring Clyde into their fenced in patio area.  It's all about Clyde, you know.

It was a little chilly out, but we kinda bundled up so we were good.

We each ordered a Spaten Octoberfest to start.

We listened to a fun band play right in front of us.  It kind of felt like we were in New Orleans with all the trumpet and horns.

Then, my husband, who hates to share, decided to split two entrees with me.  Score!
We had veggie primavera and a mushroom/eggplant parm stack.

They both rocked, but the mushroom/eggplant stack stood out because of the pesto and marinara sauce, the mushroom, and whatever else they did to it.  It was seriously amazing.  I think all eggplant parm should involve mushroom from now on!

We were right near a cupcake place that I eyed throughout dinner.  You know that spelled immediate danger.  There was no way I was going to escape without cupcakes if it was still open!

Greg said I was in charge of picking them out.

I went with a chocolate with vanilla buttercream, a peanut butter, and a chocolate raspberry (my favorite combo!).  Yesssssssssss!

I met the boys outside.

Greg told me that a lot of people "pet his weiner" while I was in the store.  We're dorks, it's an inside joke of ours...

Anyway, our diversion to Asheville was great, but it did cost us some serious time in our trip to Tennessee.  We arrived later than planned and even had to call our resort to make sure we'd be able to get in to our cabin since we were getting there after 9pm.  Luckily, it all worked out and we did find and get into our AWESOME cabin, where we promptly got into bathing suits and hopped into our private outdoor hot tub to relax.  Oh, and had one of the cupcakes!  It was a wonderful start to the trip!

To be continued...

The "pet his weiner" comment cracked me up. I'm very mature. ;)

Aw, I'm so glad your trip started off great. I need to call you and get the in-person version.

I have a notepad that has a random old photo of a man and his doxie that says "He's always showing off his weiner." You need one too. :)
