Twas The Night Before The Marathon...

And I think I'm ready to go!

I took a half day at work today so that I could head out for Charleston this afternoon and get in at a decent hour.  I'm all set up at the hotel.

Pretty decents digs!  Looks like a good place to do major recovery tomorrow.  Which is good, because I'm probably going to need to!

It would be better if this little guy was with me though.

Hope he's ok at doggie daycare.  I hated dropping him off this morning :(  I already miss him SO MUCH!

I met up with my friend Michelle and her mom when I got to the hotel and we headed over to the Expo to get our packets.  It was actually held in a tent with straw on the ground in kind of a sketchy area.  Interesting...

Anyway, the expo was a disappointment, but I had low expectations.  I've yet to go to an expo that really impressed me.  Probably because I pick somewhat small races to run in...

Michelle and I!

So here's the swag:

Cute drawstring bag.

The shirt is pretty basic as far as tech shirts go and is huge (what else is new) even though I got a small.  The most intriguing item is probably a $500 gift card to Red Star World Wear.  I guess I can get some sunglasses?

I laid out all my gear for tomorrow.

By the time I got organized my parents called and told me they had checked in!

We headed for a pre-race dinner at this place called Park Pizza Company

It's kind of a little hole in the wall place that seems to mostly do take-out.  They only have a couple tables there, but since we're from out of town, we opted to eat in.

I ordered a side salad that had tomato, onion, feta, olives, and peppers.

We split a big pizza with half pepperoni (for my dad) and half artichoke heart and mushroom.

It was GOOD.  I got a couple slices down and declared myself full.  I have been eating carbs all day: oatmeal, granola bars, pasta for lunch.  I think I'm fully carb loaded now.  At least I hope!

It's only about 9pm, but I'm beat.  I'm heading to bed!
I can't believe the marathon is tomorrow.  INSANE!!!

I'll be back with the recap soon, assuming I survive!

Good luck tomorrow even though I am sure that you will be awesome. I read you blog and think to myself I wish I was so committed to running or at least walking. I love how I feel after I do a work out, but I am not very consistent. Looking forward to hearing your story after.

Good luck to you!! Hope it goes well and looking forward to the recap.

My races have only included: 1-3k, 1-Turkey Trot, 1-5k, 2-halfs. I was only wowed with one expo and that was the one for my Rock n' Roll Half.

The entry fee seems to be correlated with the impressiveness of the expo. Rock n' Roll cost something like $65 or $70 AFTER a $10 off code, even registering 4 months in advance. My other half was like $40, and was much smaller.

Good luck!! I think as I'm writing this, you're running right now. :-)

I got a Red Star gift card in my swag too. It is for $500 and the glasses are inexpensive (about $150) but they are also cheaply made. I bought one for my dad and as soon as he tried them on, a piece broke off. He was able to glue it back, but still. So don't have high expectations for the quality, but it's still a nice swag bag gift.
